Play in the river at Allensford

River Tees Initiative in many ways represents the human landscape, and has at its heart, people. A Landscape that has seen rapid growth, and rapid change, it is truly shaped by the movement of people, by their ambition and their experiences. It is a region of great pride and self-effacing reticence in equal measure.

River Tees Initiative was developed out of the River Tees Partnership (set out in 2014 with lofty ambitions to bring about a change in the negative perception of Teesside that has existed for decades). As one of the few Landscape Partnerships that took in as much heavy industry as rural rolling hills, River Tees Initiative in many ways represents the human landscape, and has at its heart, people. A Landscape that has seen rapid growth, and rapid decline, it is truly shaped by the movement of people, by their ambition and their failures. It is a region of great pride and self-effacing reticence in equal measure.

With Groundwork NE & Cumbria at the helm, our partners include a wide variety of organisations and individuals focused on a clear and shared vision to celebrate heritage and create opportunities along the River Tees.
