In cooperation with the South Tyne and Wear Waste Management Partnership and SUEZ, Groundwork North East & Cumbria deliver an extremely successful waste awareness and recycling education programme across South Tyne and Wear.

The project, based at the flagship Visitor and Education Centre in Gateshead, provides a range of activities, workshops and presentations targeted at residents across the three local authority areas of Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland.

Over the past 5 years, the project has engaged with over 25,000 individuals who have learnt how their general and recyclable household waste is managed.  Sessions are delivered at the Visitor and Education Centre, via outreach, or site tours of the Energy from Waste Plant.

The project is an excellent example of partnership working between local authorities, the private sector and an environmental charity and the work of the Visitor and Education Centre continues to go from strength to strength.
