After moving to the UK from Hong Kong, Daniel was grateful to receive support to make his new home a warmer and comfortable place to live in.

Daniel, 63, recently moved to Blackpool to build a new life. With limited income and savings, he was unable to make necessary repairs to the property which was in poor condition. Not only was the small house extremely cold and draughty, but it also lacked basic energy efficiency measures. For Daniel, daily living was uncomfortable and costly.

Green Doctor Rachel joined Daniel at his home to assess the situation and provide practical help. During the visit, she installed energy saving light bulbs in every room and added draught proofing to windows and doors to help retain heat. These small but effective changes made an immediate difference in reducing heat loss and energy costs.

Rachel also explored larger sources of funding, that Daniel may be able to access once he has gained his UK residency status, to upgrade his home.

Daniel was extremely pleased with the advice and support he received from the Green Doctor visit. The improvements have made his home noticeably warmer and more energy efficient.

I’m really grateful to Rachel for coming to my house. Even though I can’t get the government scheme support yet, the small things she did made a big difference. My house feels warmer and I’m not using as much electricity. Thank you for the help.

Rachel said: “Modest interventions can make a big impact for people living in cold and inefficient homes. While some residents may face barriers to larger support due to their immigration status, personalised advice and practical measures from services like Green Doctor can still improve comfort, health and energy savings”.
