We're delighted that Groundwork Leeds was recently awarded the Career Development Services Special Award at the Bradford University Summer Experience Awards after two of their students completed placements with us during summer 2013.
The first supported our communities team both in the office and outdoors, helping prepare for and deliver sessions for projects like Green for Go. The work experience consisted of a variety of different activities and allowed the student to develop leadership and instructing skills which also helped to build confidence.
The second placement was with our training team where the student assisted teaching staff and helped learners (aged 16-19) search for employment and further education opportunities. The student gained in confidence by working in an environment outside of his comfort zone and through being encouraged to work on his own initiative. The experience also allowed him to improved his communication and administrative skills.
Overall Groundwork was commended for providing a comfortable working environment and for making the students feel extremely welcome.
We'd also like to thank the students in question for their time, skills and enthusiasm, and we wish them well with their continuing studies.
