British Gas: Green Doctor Programme
Groundwork is helping vulnerable households heat their homes and pay their energy bills with funding support from British Gas.
The programme will offer assistance and relief for up to 3800 vulnerable households across eleven locations in England and North Wales. Our team of experienced energy-efficiency experts, Green Doctors, will deliver services to help against the energy costs crisis and help people to stay warm and well.

The programme aims to address the need for support amongst households who are impacted by the current energy and cost of living crisis – targeting areas of increasing fuel poverty and working with partners to identify and help vulnerable customers who need more intensive home-based support. This includes low income households, older people, those suffering ill-health and young families/single parents.
Support on offer through Groundwork’s Green Doctors will include home visits to offer tailored, energy saving advice to help reduce bills, increase comfort and provide a platform to promote and support more energy efficient behaviours, including:
- Understanding energy bills and sourcing better energy deals
- Supporting more effective use of smart meters
- Tackling energy debts and maximising household incomes through access to, for example welfare benefits and hardship grants
- Facilitating referrals to wider services and support
- The installation of small energy savings measures
