Green Steps Forward
Duration: End of March 2027
Background
Green Steps Forward builds on Groundwork’s existing wellbeing and green skills programmes, supporting 35 residents across Trafford who face barriers to wellbeing, learning and employment. We will support participants to make small but meaningful steps, building confidence, resilience, motivation and community engagement.

What Groundwork are doing
Green Steps Forward is split into three strands of support:
- Wellbeing workshops – We will deliver 12 weekly nature-based wellbeing workshops led by familiar practitioners, creating a safe, welcoming and consistent environment. Participants can engage at their own pace in activities such as forest bathing, therapeutic yoga, and sensory, creative and reflective tasks.
- Green Skills training – will deliver practical, three-hour Green Skills workshops with all tools, protective equipment and training provided. Participants will learn land-based skills such as species identification, habitat management and the safe use of hand tools. Delivered as flexible, standalone modules, the sessions are designed to re-engage residents who may have had limited access to training or disengaged from formal education.
- Pastoral support – A dedicated keyworker will support participants throughout the programme, offering personalised guidance, wellbeing support and practical help to overcome barriers, access services and progress towards their goals.
The project prioritises people with disabilities, long-term health or mental health conditions, older residents, ethnic minority communities, NEET participants and socially isolated men aged 55+.
By providing practical, inclusive activities alongside minibus transport and hot meals, it aims to build confidence, resilience, social connection and motivation, helping participants take gradual steps towards community involvement, further training and employment.
