Our Vision

Hello – we’re Groundwork Greater Manchester.
If you don’t know us yet, we’re all about social justice, climate action, and nature recovery, all bundled up to make everyday lives so… much… better.
And how do we work? In and with communities. That’s who we serve, with a proud and outspoken bias to prioritising those facing the greatest challenges, making sure everyone has the support, tools and resources they need to succeed.
What are we working to achieve? A greener, fairer and stronger future for people, communities and places in Greater Manchester that’s what!
Read on to find out more and, if you like what you read and want to work with us to make this happen, be sure to get in touch.
Our three strategic pillars:
PEOPLE
We will work for all, improving life chances and increasing well-being across the communities we serve
What that means in action…
Green skills: Local pathways into retrofit, energy advice, waste and nature careers for those furthest from work – including long term unemployed, young people who aren’t in education or employment, and those out of work due to poor health.
Warm, healthy homes: Our Green Doctor service provides free, expert, in-home consultations from our trusted advisors – with practical support to tackle fuel poverty and ensure households are warm, healthy and financially secure.

COMMUNITIES
We will bring communities together to deliver long lasting, positive social and environmental change.
What that means in action…
Green community hubs: Welcoming community-led spaces where people can access the support they need to live well – health, employment, skills and well-being services – as well as connect with nature and one another.
Community-led nature stewardship:
Communities lead on long-term care of local green and blue spaces, coming together and feeling a greater sense of belonging and pride in the places they live.
PLACES
We will create thriving nature rich and climate resilient urban environments, delivered and cared for in partnership with the community.
What that means in action…
Climate resilient places: nature based solutions and sustainable urban drainage co-designed with communities so that they are stronger and more prepared for extreme weather events when they happen.
Community-led retrofit: Retrofitting buildings and adapting outdoor spaces for carbon reduction, improved water management, nature recovery and well-being.
