Community ideas on Pride in Place Clayton Vale

In summer 2026, Groundwork was commissioned by the Clayton Vale Pride in Place Board to undertake a community consultation, helping to shape the future of the area and understand what local residents want from the new Pride in Place investment programme. Over the next 10 years, up to £20 million will be invested in Clayton Vale, creating a significant opportunity for residents to influence positive change in their neighbourhood.

Groundwork has been working in Clayton Vale for several years, connecting local people with the natural environment on their doorstep, improving habitats and access routes and supporting local people to develop new skills. More recently, Groundwork has also been exploring community interest in developing a Green Community Hub at Clayton Vale, creating a welcoming space for residents to come together, learn new skills and take part in activities that benefit both people and nature.

Consultation Activities and Approach

The consultation was delivered in two parts to ensure as many residents as possible had the opportunity to share their views.

Firstly, an online survey was launched to gather feedback on what people value most about Clayton Vale, what improvements they would like to see and how they would like to contribute to future developments in the area.

On the evening of 8 July, Groundwork hosted a community meal at the Tuck Shop in Clayton Vale. The event provided a relaxed and informal setting where local people could meet neighbours, exchange ideas and take part in facilitated discussions about the area’s future.

The workshop was led by Community Project Lead Fran, who used an asset-based community development approach throughout the session. This ensured residents’ voices remained central to the conversation while recognising and celebrating the existing strengths, knowledge and skills already present within the community.

What People Want to See More of in Clayton Vale

Facilitators captured a wide range of views, ideas and suggestions during the workshop, which were combined with responses from the online survey. Together, these insights revealed a number of key priorities for local people:

  1. Improving nature, biodiversity and green spaces
  2. Better facilities and opportunities for children and young people
  3. Developing the Tuck Shop as a thriving community hub
  4. Community growing projects, volunteering opportunities and skills development
  5. Arts, heritage and cultural activities
  6. Improved access, infrastructure and maintenance
  7. Greater promotion of local opportunities and increased community awareness
  8. Activities that support health and wellbeing through nature
  9. Improved local services
  10. Enhancements to the public realm

These priorities reflect a strong desire for a greener, more connected and more vibrant community, with residents keen to see investment that benefits people of all ages while protecting and enhancing the area’s natural environment.

What Happens Next?

The full consultation report was presented to the Clayton Vale Pride in Place Board in July 2026. Findings from this work will be considered alongside other engagement activities taking place across the area, helping to shape investment priorities and guide decision-making over the next decade.

The consultation also highlighted the wealth of passion, knowledge and leadership that already exists within the local community. Several attendees demonstrated a strong appetite to become more actively involved in local projects and initiatives.
