Our Green Team programme provides skills & training opportunities to those starting a career in construction and the Natural Environment.

We’ve been working in partnership with Rochdale Boroughwide Housing since 2009, with local residents taking up a two year apprenticeship scheme which helps transform unsightly urban community spaces.

Most recently, the team, who are working towards achieving L2 in Work Based Horticulture – Landscaping, have been working at Moss Row Independent Living Scheme where a neglected piece of land has received a welcomed new lease of life.

Following consultation with residents, the team created a space which included:

  • A new block paved patio area
  • Two raised timber planters
  • Two fixed timber tables with seating.

The communal space is in a known “sun trap” so the new design features are very much welcomed by residents of the scheme who wanted opportunities to be outside and connect with neighbours.

Ken Griffin a resident at Moss Row Independent Living Scheme added,

“The new facility has transformed my life. It is lovely and now I can sit out there, even eating my breakfast there when it’s dry. Lots of local people passing by have also told me how lovely the new area looks”

Phil Treaton, Head of Neighbourhoods at Groundwork Greater Manchester added,

“This is only the second project the new apprentices have completed and the quality of the work is fantastic. We pride ourselves on providing expert supervision and support to all of our trainees and employees so they can reach their potential. I’m sure the new space at Moss Row will be well used by residents.”
