“The advice and support that I received was excellent” – Stephen’s Story
Finding work after alcohol
Stephen had received support from social enterprise Turning Point for alcohol recovery and as such, his next step was to look at his future career options with Groundwork work coach, Aysha.
Due to personal difficulties, Stephen’s self-confidence and motivation for work had been dramatically affected. He wanted to understand which options would best utilise his skills and experience.
Aysha made regular contact with Stephen to discuss job and training opportunities. Through their regular telephone appointments, Aysha helped Stephen to realise what he wanted to do, and supported him to produce an up-to-date CV which potential employers would find interesting.
Since then, Stephen decided he wanted to help others who have been through similar challenges to himself, and has recently started work as a Support Officer in the drug/alcohol sector.
The advice and support that I received was excellent. My self-confidence and motivation has improved many fold. I was particularly pleased with the way that Aysha would listen, and constructively question my thoughts and ideas, while accepting that what was happening was a way of re discovering my employability and self-worth
