Groundwork East | Grow It, Cook It, Share It | Claire & Millie
Home growing is an experience that some families lack, may that be due to lack of time, space or knowledge. This project allows parents and children to understand the production of fruit and vegetables, provide information about the benefits of healthy eating and healthy lifestyles, as well as environmental issues such as composting and wildlife in gardens.
When Claire and her daughter, Millie, joined Grow It, Cook It, Share It, they knew very little about growing your own food, (I mean who does at two years old?) But, since taking part in the project Claire admits she has learnt so much and has even been inspired to start her own vegetable patch in the garden.
Claire said, ‘ Grow It, Cook It, Share It, enables Millie to see where her food actually comes from and how it is grown, which helps with her interests and means she is less picky with food along with teaching me things such as the difference between perennial and bi-annual herbs.’

The project encourages parents and their children to keep diaries with their seed growing progress, Claire loved this idea as it gives Millie something to look back on and learn from and she too gets excited about noting the progress of her seedlings.
Claire added, ‘Not only does the project teach us about growing our own food, but it facilitates Millie to socialize with others of a similar age and me to make friends and socialize with them.’

Their favorite moment of the group so far has been accidentally planting a whole packet of carrot seeds in one pot, but luckily they’re about to adopt a rabbit who can help them munch their way through those.
