The Parish Paths Partnership scheme (P3) is an initiative that enables Hertfordshire parishes to benefit the local community by making improvements to their public Rights of Way network.
How does the scheme work?
The grant scheme offers town and parish councils a grant of up to £1,000 to improve, promote or enhance existing public rights of way to local residents’ advantage. The scheme is administered by Groundwork Hertfordshire and funded by Hertfordshire County Council.
What type of projects can the grants be used for?
A wide range of projects can be completed using a P3 grant, examples of work completed by parishes include:
- Harpenden Town Council to use their grant as match funding to secure a Landfill Communities Grant. They then used the total amount to resurface the entire length of footpath 24, improving access for all.
- Wymondley Parish Council replaced a series of stiles with kissing gates, with the help of the Countryside Management Service (CMS) volunteers. Now it’s even easier for people to enjoy Wymondley and its surroundings.
- Thundridge Parish Council installed some new way marker posts to make the route easier to follow and adding a kissing gate to improve accessibility.
- Aldenham Parish Council replaced an ageing bridge and a gate, making their route safer.
