Train for a career in cycle mechanics with a fully funded 5-week programme for Londoners

This programme is delivered by Groundwork London in collaboration with Cycle Confident and offers hands-on training, a recognised qualification, employability support and a guaranteed interview with our employer partners.

Skills Bootcamps are funded by the Mayor of London and the Department for Education as part of the Skills for Life campaign.

What You’ll Gain

  • City & Guilds Level 2 Cycle Mechanics Qualification
Industry-recognised by employers across the cycling sector.
  • Hands-On Mechanical Skills
Learn to repair punctures, replace brakes and gears, service bearings, bottom brackets, cranks, headsets and frames. You’ll also build wheels, prepare frames and forks, and fit a range of accessories confidently.
  • Real Work Experience (5 Days)
Participate in a practical work placement covering mobile repairs, on-site support for cyclists, customer interaction and efficient workshop setup.
  • Career Support Included
Receive CV assistance, interview preparation and ongoing employability guidance to support your next step into work.

In addition to core cycle mechanic training, the programme also includes several industry-aligned modules that reflect real service needs across London’s cycling sector. This includes Dr Bike Services Training, where learners gain experience in delivering safety checks, basic repairs and cyclist support at workplaces, schools and community events — with a strong emphasis on communication and customer interaction. The course also introduces Advanced Diagnostic Techniques covering electronic shifting, e-bike technology, hydraulic disc brakes and integrated sensor systems, giving trainees the confidence to diagnose and resolve more complex issues. Training in Cargo Bike Mechanics is included to support the growing last-mile delivery market, alongside Mobile Workshop Skills that prepare learners to operate independent or mobile repair services, focusing on equipment setup, organisation and efficient service delivery. Sustainability is embedded throughout the course, encouraging environmentally responsible repair practice, reuse and recycling of parts, and a greater awareness of carbon impact across the cycling industry.
