Southwark Mental Health Support Team (MHST) is part of a national initiative to transform children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing support. The MHST works across primary and secondary schools in Southwark providing early intervention and prevention wellbeing support to children, young people, their families and school staff.

Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) offer support for children and young people who are struggling with wellbeing concerns such as anxiety, phobias, challenging behaviour, low mood and depression, in schools across Southwark.

We offer staff training on a range of topics including working with neurodiversity, trauma awareness and supporting children and young people’s wellbeing in school. We offer 1:1 sessions, groups, workshops and training within schools.

These are aimed at supporting children, young people and their families, as well as school staff.

The MHST team also delivers tailored workshops and groups within schools including Exam Stress, Friendships and Online Safety.

The MHST works from trauma-informed principles using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques which help equip children and young people with skills to help them manage their own wellbeing, focusing on anxiety, low mood, and behaviours that challenge.

We are passionate about building strong connections with the local community to improve children and young people’s wellbeing.
