Full CIRCLE was funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund as an extension of Groundwork London’s CIRCLE project, which works to support refugees settling into the UK.

Between November 2019 and August 2020, a series of ‘Create & Communicate’ sessions were held with communities in Barnet and Hackney, enabling participants to share skills and stories from their cultural traditions and learn about each other’s heritage. The project was designed to encourage refugees to re-engage with their cultural heritage in positive ways in their host country, bringing different communities together and helping them find points of similarity, while celebrating their diversity.

A book and curriculum resource pack were produced to document and celebrate the diverse cultural knowledge of skills, crafts and traditions that were shared through the ‘Create & Communicate’ sessions.

Creating Communities is a book which was created and curated by individuals living in London from all over the world. In its pages you will find a collection of recipes, stories and ideas from their different backgrounds to show you some traditional and not-so-traditional ways of cooking, crafting and gardening at home and in your community.

Why not give the book a read? You can flick through the pages on our E-Book.
