Groundwork Community Awards

Welcome to our brand new Blog section: Katy Stevenson, Chief Executive, Groundwork Wales.

During my time with Groundwork, I’ve seen some fantastic outcomes for our communities – including projects like the ever-expanding Tarragan Allotments, set up by John and Ron, two community minded volunteer leaders, St Athan’s ‘Saints’ group, set up to help children play in the outdoors, and the Eagles Bush group in Neath, supporting people to utilise the outdoors for community action and health and wellbeing.

This month we are really excited to be supporting Groundwork’s Community Awards, which will take place in London in the autumn.  Through our work we meet and support some truly amazing and dedicated people, many of whom have a real drive to give something to their communities and the places they live, harnessing community spirit and helping others to improve their health, wellbeing, skills and employability.  We know that these unsung heroes work tirelessly day in day out and we know they deserve recognition.

In Wales there are 33,000 organisations and 938,000 volunteers in organisations, ranging in age, and undertaking a vast amount of community activity.  Please take time to nominate your group, community leader or young community leader – or a project under any of the categories. Let’s have strong representation from Wales at these national awards, and show the UK what we are all about here in Wales!

The closing date for nominations is 25th August 2017.
