Theseus Boreas Crowdfunding Appeal

Theseus Boreas Tenants & Residents' Association (TRA), with the support of the Islington Sustainable Energy Partnership (ISEP) and Groundwork London, want to transform their outdated play area into a vibrant community resource, where local children, residents and visitors will be welcome to play, learn and relax for years to come - but we need your help!

Background

Theseus Boreas Walk, adjacent to Nelson Place and Theseus Walk, N1, has been well used over the years by those who live and work in the local area, but in recent years the space has become increasingly outdated. The small amount of existing play equipment is old, and overgrown plants and shrubs and the decline in use have contributed to a rise in anti-social behaviour in the area.

Over the next two months we aim to raise £10,000 to provide key pieces of play equipment and green planting to help transform Theseus Boreas Walk into a green space and play facility which truly benefits the whole community.

This £10,000 would allow the TRA to install: new, modern, safe and accessible play equipment; outdoor exercise equipment; a young children’s play area with climbing ramp and slide; a sensory garden with flowering and fragrant plants and grasses; and a timber planter for food growing.

Dominic Fenton, former Chair of Theseus Boreas TRA says, “We believe that transforming this space will bring our community closer together, provide an important resource for our children to play and learn, and help make our local area cleaner, greener and safer."

With support from Islington Council's Estate Environment Improvement Fund and regeneration charity Groundwork London, the TRA now have designs for an exciting and stimulating space for local residents of all ages to enjoy. However, fundraising is crucial to make these designs a reality!

For every £1 raised or donated during this fundraising campaign up to our £10,000 target, Islington Council's Housing Department will donate a further £3. For example, a donation of £100 will unlock a further £300 for the project, effectively quadrupling the money raised and ensuring your generosity has even more impact.

Sponsorship Opportunities for Local Businesses

Your business can support the transformation of Theseus Boreas. Give the gift of play by sponsoring safe, attractive play equipment for active children and young people in Islington. Alternatively, why not task your staff to fundraise for an accessible roundabout or for a sensory garden, to transform this neglected space into a green oasis for the whole community with beautiful plants and fun food growing facilities.

Over the last year, Theseus Boreas TRA has been working with Groundwork London and Islington Council to consult the community and develop the designs for Theseus Boreas Walk. We've spoken to lots of local residents who agree that improving the play facilities, particularly for younger children, is a priority. By replacing the overgrown perimeter hedging and opening up the space, we also hope to discourage anti-social behaviour and help create a safer community for everyone.

All sponsors will receive:

  • Recognition through the project’s social media and PR campaign.
  • Logo and name on the ISEP and Groundwork London websites.
  • Invitation to the official launch of the new space in 2017.
  • Sponsors donating £2,500 or more will be recognised on a plaque in the space.

Looking for other ways to help? Could your business...

  • provide refreshments for the official opening of the space?
  • promote the fundraising through your company networks?
  • donate prizes for a fundraising raffle?

Our crowdfunding appeal ends on 31 December 2016.

If you'd like to sponsor or donate to the project offline, please email info@isep.org.uk.
