“Our confidence was boosted, we felt ready to take on our interviews” – Katisia & Isandra’s story

As part of Groundwork’s Elevate Salford partnership, Working Wardrobe was invited to The Broughton Trust to promote interview clothing and coaching support with learners coming to the end of their course and ready to move into the world of work.

Background

Following the session, our Project Manager met Isandra, who felt more confident since developing her English speaking and writing skills. Isandra was really keen to receive some guidance around interview technique and what to wear, as she had never interviewed for a paid role in the UK since moving from Africa. Isandra also mentioned that she had a close friend who had recently moved over and would benefit from some support.

Getting interview ready

Isandra was booked in for an initial coaching session with Working Wardrobe, which helped to identify her career aspirations. They also discussed her previous experience as well as transferable skills and typical interview questions. She was really interested in Customer Service and had dreams of working within a hotel setting.

Isandra and her friend, Katisia, were then booked in for a styling session at The Mustard Tree in Eccles. They provide the space free to Working Wardrobe every Wednesday as part of the Elevate partnership.

The team supported Isandra & Katisia with a full interview outfit. They were encouraged to try on different pieces, helping them to pair items together that would boost their confidence and allow them to feel ready to take on their interviews.

Preparing for the future

During the appointment, the team identified that Isandra & Katisia would be eligible for the Elevate Salford programme. After providing consent, Working Wardrobe referred them both to Elevate to access support around CV writing and job searching. They could also gain a qualification in Customer Service which would improve their employability. Isandra and Katisia are progressing well with Elevate, and will be booked back in with Working Wardrobe for a coaching session once they have a confirmed interview date.
