Trafford is a diverse borough in Greater Manchester which has vast economic, social and greenspace inequalities. We work primarily in neighbourhoods in North Trafford; in Old Trafford, Stretford and Gorse Hill helping create a greener, fairer and stronger future for Trafford.

The borough includes several large scale economic assets, including Trafford Park and major sporting and tourist attractions, making the regions 2028 Net Zero target somewhat challenging, that’s why we’re working with key partners on the Greening Trafford Park and Green Skills programmes.

Active Partnerships

Groundwork are active partners in the following multi-sector, Trafford based partnerships:

  • Trafford Partnership
  • Trafford Climate Network
  • Trafford Employment Enterprise & Skills – Green Economy sub-group

Our work with local people & communities

Tackling fuel poverty

Our Green Doctors help Trafford residents boost their income and live warm and well in their homes by installing small measures, offering behaviour change advice and supporting them to manage payments.

Helping young people feel safe

Our youth workers are supporting young people in Old Trafford to feel safe on the streets and strengthen their connection to their local community.

Helping people get work ready

Our Working Wardrobe programme launched in Trafford and continues to operate weekly, providing a personal styling service which gives people the outfit and confidence they need to get the job that they deserve.

Coaching young people to reach their potential

Our youth workers provide regular coaching to young people who have been identified as at high risk of becoming NEET, helping them understand their strengths and reach their goals.

Enhancing green spaces in Trafford

Engaging businesses in Trafford Park

We worked alongside Arup to consult on the ‘Greening of Trafford Park’ consultation, specifically focusing on engaging businesses about the key challenges and opportunities that exist on Trafford Park with a particular focus on the potential for environmental and infrastructure improvements.

Seymour Park School

Our landscape architects created a masterplan for improving the school grounds at Seymour Park Primary School in Old Trafford so the school could open up the windows of the classroom which flowed into an outdoor play area.

Supporting nature recovery in Trafford

Tucked away in the industrial heart of Trafford Park is our main office base, Trafford Ecology Park; a registered nature site of Biological Importance and a true wildlife oasis.
