Since October, we’ve been delivering a Job Club in St Peter’s borough in Tameside, providing tailored support to help people take their next steps towards employment. Based at our Ashton office, the job club offers a welcoming, flexible environment where individuals are supported from wherever they are in their journey, whether they’re exploring career options for the first time or preparing for interviews.

Support we offer

Our team provides help with CV writing, cover letters, job searching, interview preparation and access to training opportunities. Alongside one-to-one guidance, the programme also offers group sessions for building confidence, providing ICT facilities, and even offering a free breakfast to ensure everyone can start the day ready to engage.

What sets the Job Club apart is its no-pressure, person-centred approach. Participants don’t need to have a clear plan when they arrive. Instead, they’re encouraged to explore their interests at their own pace, with staff adapting support to reflect changing goals and circumstances. The team also connects individuals to wider opportunities through partner organisations, helping to remove barriers and build confidence.

The impact has been significant. Participants have progressed from uncertainty about their future to securing full-time employment, while others have overcome anxiety to attend sessions independently and build a routine.

James’ story

James has been attending the Job Club for five months. When he first started, he was struggling with low confidence, disrupted routines, and challenges with both his mental and physical health. He wasn’t sure where to start in looking for work, and the prospect of job hunting felt overwhelming.

Through the Job Club, James received practical support with his CV, cover letters, and understanding how to apply for roles effectively. Beyond the practical skills, he built routine and regained confidence, discovering that there were opportunities and pathways he hadn’t considered before.

“My confidence had been really affected by my mental and physical health, but coming here has helped me get back into a routine and move forward. The staff have been amazing, they’ve shown me where to look and how to look for jobs. It’s helped me realise there are more opportunities out there for me. I feel more positive about the future and ready to take the next steps.”

Through its supportive and flexible approach, St Peter’s Job Club is helping people rebuild confidence, develop skills, and take meaningful steps towards a brighter future.
