As climate change worsens, emergency events such as flooding, heat waves and power outages will become more common occurrences in people’s lives.

We’re working with the people of Rochdale to facilitate conversations about how people can come together in these emergencies, ensuring networks and infrastructure are in place before incidents occur.

Have your say!

We’d love to hear from as many people as possible who live and work in Rochdale!

Please take 5 minutes to complete our anonymous short survey with your thoughts.

If you’d like to be contacted about upcoming events and workshops, simply add your contact details at the end of the survey:

Upcoming events

We’ll be hosting a number of in-person and online events where you can have your say and share your ideas on community resilience in Rochdale:

  • More dates to be announced!

We’re looking to attend existing events taking place in the area. If you run a community centre or group and think we could work together, please contact Amy.Wright@groundwork.org.uk for more information on working together.

What people have said so far

We’ve been attending community events throughout the summer including Feel Good Family Picnics across Rochdale and Falinge Park Apple Fair, as well as meeting with community groups at Deeplish Community Centre, the Bangladeshi Association and Community Partnership and Women’s Welfare Association.

We’ve enjoyed all of the conversations, and although we can’t share them all, here are some common themes:

  • Bangladeshi and Pakistani communities have a strong understanding of climate change risks, recognising the devasting effects of recent events such as flooding in Bangladesh.
  • People are taking practical steps for health and wellbeing which contribute to reducing carbon emissions – like food growing at home.
  • The majority of people strongly value local parks and greenspaces and would like to see more events in these places, where the community can come together.
  • A number of people would like to see more youth clubs or activities for teenagers.
  • People are concerned about safety in their local area and feeling safe.
