OUR VISION FOR PLACES – Creating thriving, nature rich and climate resilient urban environments, delivered and cared for in partnership with the community

Groundwork is a community-led placemaker. We create better environments with the people who live there, opening up connections, developing skills and delivering outcomes for both people and places. As we deliver our programme to 2035 We will work in areas of greatest need to improve access to green and blue spaces, help nature recover and foster long-term community stewardship. We believe that everyone should be able to access nature on their doorstep, and live in a safe, climate-ready neighbourhood.
What will success look like?
Eco Streets
We will work alongside Greater Manchester’s
most vulnerable communities to adapt neighbourhoods for a changing climate, while
improving local green and blue spaces and access to nature.
We will co-design street-scale climate adaptation measures, prioritising nature-based solutions that manage water and provide cooling.
We will support residents to retrofit and adapt their homes, inside and out, delivering benefits for water management, carbon reduction, nature recovery and wellbeing.
Communities prepared
We will build the skills, knowledge and capacity needed to protect those who are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and help communities adapt and prepare. We will work with communities of place and interest, sharing learning across neighbourhoods and landscapes.
Community-led nature stewardship
We will establish an active programme of community-led nature stewardship across Greater Manchester, building connection with nature, strengthening relationships within and between communities, increasing nature literacy and ensuring that nature is cared for over the long term.
