John Troth OBE is to step down as Chair at Groundwork North Wales

Groundwork North Wales based in Tanyfron, Wrexham works alongside local communities, public bodies, private companies and other voluntary sector organisations to support communities in need. Delivering projects across North Wales creating better neighbourhoods, building skills and job prospects and helping people to live and work in a greener way.

John has been with the charity since 1994 and has seen massive changes in the services that Groundwork North Wales is able to offer and a huge increase in the communities that have benefitted from their work.

Services now include accredited training provision pan Wales, the management of Caffi Cyfle and Venue in the Park at Alyn Waters Country Park supporting lives of individuals with learning difficulties through the inhouse work and volunteering programme, and the reopening of Minera Lead Mines as a visitors attraction allowing people to experience the local heritage through the natural landscape.

John’s wife Judy Troth recalls that he was pleased to be joining Groundwork North Wales as “he would be doing something good for the environment and local communities” when he was appointed in the role.

John speaking of his time at Groundwork North Wales “It has been a great privilege and experience to work with the Groundwork North Wales teams and to have achieve so much in the Communities of North Wales over the years. The future development of the Trust will be facing the same challenges as all who work in the Voluntary Sector, but I am confident that the team has the skills and enterprise to build on their achievements and I wish them every success in doing so”.

John is a well-respected member of the Wrexham and North Wales business community; he was awarded an OBE in 1991 for his services to export through his 25 years spent as MD at Dennis Ruabon; he was awarded an Honorary Fellowship at Glyndwr University in 1992 for his services to institutional governance and has a lecture theatre named in his honour on the Glyndwr University Campus. Colleague and Trustee, Helen Wright, said:
