Northern Futures

What is Northern Futures?

Northern Futures offers an end-to-end voluntary employability and personal development package tailored to the unique and complex needs of each participant; moving them closer to employment or education.

This project is funded by the Economically Inactive Health Trailblazer, for Young People through the North East Combined Authority and is delivered until March 2026.

What we offer

  • Tailored 1:1 employability and personal development support designed around each participant’s individual needs and goals.
  • Specialist guidance for young adults facing challenges related to mental health, physical health, debt, benefits, wellbeing, and housing.
  • Opportunities to gain valuable experience through volunteering placements and work experience with local employers.
  • Access to accredited training and qualifications, including Maths, English, and CSCS courses to improve skills and confidence.
  • Support for economically inactive 18–24 year olds to move closer to employment, education, or further training.

Entry Requirements

This project operates throughout the 7 local authority regions. You must be within this area, 18-24 years old and out of work to qualify for our support.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the service work?

Once you have referred to the Programme you will be contacted to set up a first appointment with your local Employment Coach. In your first appointment you will complete a registration form and an agreed action plan which will allow us to support you with achieving your goals into Employment, Education and Training. The support you will receive is focused on individual needs.

Where would I have appointments?

We have Employment Coaches covering all areas and will meet you in local hubs or community spaces.

Is the service free?

Yes! Our services are free. We can also fund travel and PPE to opportunities, appointments with your Employment Coach and help with interview clothes.

How does Northern Futures differ from other employability services?

Northern Futures focuses on work experience. We have a range of different experiences available including; One day opportunities, short work experiences and paid placements. We also have a participant centred approach where we work directly with the young person and their interests to help them achieve a positive outcome.
