Amanda is in her 30’s and lives in Dukinfield, Tameside with her partner and dog.

She’s got a passion for retail and has volunteered at a range of charity shops including the RSPCA and British Red Cross, as well as working at Bon Marche for almost 2 years, where her manager shared that “Amanda gives the greatest customer service I’ve ever seen.”

Amanda was referred by Anthony Seddon Foundation to Groundwork’s Employment Specialists to help her find work, suggesting that this could help with her overall well-being. Amanda has learning difficulties and struggles with anxiety. She can be nervous in new places and with new people. Despite this, she is keen to work in the retail environment, enjoying the routine and interaction with customers.

Groundwork Employment Coach Ryan first met Amanda in November 2024. She was a bit wary of him at first, but the pair bonded over a mutual enjoyment of dogs.

Ryan assisting Amanda with getting a job through the employment programme

Since then, Ryan has been meeting with Amanda weekly to help her find her next job. Things were looking great, with Amanda securing temporary work at Superdrug for the busy festive period. She really enjoyed being back at work and started feeling better in herself, however the temporary contract came to an end as there were no full-time positions available.

Amanda and Ryan resumed their weekly meetings at Ashton Library and continued to look for her next employment opportunity together. Ryan has reached out to smaller retailers, including dog groomers and local newsagents, to see if there are opportunities there which wouldn’t be advertised on the main job sites.

After Ryan spoke with a local newsagent ‘One Stop’, he and Amanda filled out an application form and she was invited to an interview. We are now pleased to say that she has secured a part time role close to her home in Dukinfield with this employer.
