The Great Big Green Week is the UK’s biggest celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. From 7th to 15th June 2025, communities across the country will unite to make positive environmental changes. Groundwork Greater Manchester is proud to participate for a third year in this campaign, celebrating the organisers vision to enable people to work together to bring about positive social change.


Get Involved in Groundwork’s Big Green Week Events

Please feel free to join us at any of the following events during Great Big Green Week:

  • Paint & Plant a Pot: A creative session taking place in Oldham centre where participants can decorate plant pots and learn about the importance of greenery in urban spaces.
  • Greening Oldham Centre: An initiative to enhance the Oldham Centre with more green spaces, promoting biodiversity and community well-being.
  • Litter Pick & Planting in Oldham: A community effort to clean up the town centre and plant new greenery, fostering a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
  • Balsam Bashing & Wildflower Planting: An event in Lees Brook focused on removing invasive species and planting native wildflowers to support local ecosystems.
  • Invasive Non-Native Species Green Skills Training: A training session aimed at educating participants on identifying and managing invasive non-native species, equipping them with practical skills to support local biodiversity and environmental health.

Supporting local groups

We’ll also be running a number of closed events as part of The Big Green Week, working with people who are marginalised or at risk. These activities will include:

  • Working with young men from Manchester College to undertake restoration activities on parts of the lake at Trafford Ecology Park.
  • Working with a young women’s group in Stockport named the ‘Women Warriors’ taking action for the planet by cooking a communal, plant based meal.
  • Working with young people in West Gorton Community Park who will be promoting outdoor play an conservation to other members of the community and its health and wellbeing benefits.
