Rag Revival – Reducing Textile Waste
Duration: September 2026
Background
Rag Revival will educate residents about the impact of textile overconsumption, encouraging textile waste to be upcycled into crafts and creations.
At the same time, residents from across Greater Manchester will learn basic sewing skills empowering them to live more sustainability, reduce their carbon emissions and contribute to a more circular economy.

What we’re doing
- This year, we will deliver 64 workshops across Manchester, Stockport, Trafford and Tameside.
- Each session will teach up to 12 participants new skills around basic sewing (how to do easy fixes on clothing) produce crafts and creations using textile waste. Each learner will be creating their own individual square for a community quilt, with all the pieces sewn together to embody something the group find important about their local community.
- Each session will engage participants in conversations about sustainability and the circular economy, encouraging reflection of current behaviours and a move towards positive action.
- We will be using textile waste from local donation drives and partners throughout the delivery of the project.
