Our work in Stockport
As a borough, Stockport is thriving; with attractive countryside villages and a £1bn investment programme underway, it’s no surprise the area is receiving positive media attention. However, despite the buzz, there are areas in the borough which lack access to the opportunities available elsewhere.
We work primarily in central Stockport and Brinnington, creating solutions that put power in local hands, creating skills and jobs for a greener economy and delivering greenspaces for nature, for climate and for everyone.
The Groundwork Centre
Our Centre is located in Stockport town centre at: First floor, 2 Princes Street, Stockport, SK1 1SE
We host a range of 1-2-1 a group activities out of the Centre, enhancing wellbeing, providing job support and advising on how to stay warm and well at home.

Establishing a Green Community Hub in Brinnington
We’re supporting a group of committed volunteers who are passionate about making Brinnington greener, stronger and more connected.
Enhancing health & wellbeing
We’re supporting economically inactive residents who are not currently accessing the support they need to make positive progressions towards their goals and aspirations.
Starting careers in construction
We’re partnering with construction companies working in Stockport to help develop training courses which support those furthest from the job market.
Tackling fuel poverty
Our Green Doctors help Stockport residents boost their income and live warm and well in their homes by installing small measures, offering behaviour change advice and supporting them to manage payments.
Developing young green leaders
Our youth workers are supporting young people in Stockport to strengthen their connection to their local community and to nature.
Supporting care leavers
Our specialist care leavers’ employment team work with young people on a 1-2-1 basis helping them manage a range of personal challenges, start their careers and understand how to navigate various challenges in life.
Helping people get work ready
Our Working Wardrobe programme operates in Stockport weekly, providing a personal styling service which gives people the outfit and confidence they need to get the job that they deserve.
Green Social Prescribing
We partnered with Pennine Care’s Early Intervention Teams in Brinnington to deliver a Green Social Prescribing Programme with adults suffering from mental health issues.
Enhancing green spaces in Stockport
Greening Stockport Town Centre
Our community engagement team arranged a series of community activities which make Stockport town centre greener and local people feel more connected with nature.
Garden maintenance
We’re working with Stockport Homes to undertake garden maintenance and environmental improvements across the borough to ensure that local residents can access and enjoy their outdoor space.
Designing a therapeutic garden at Stepping Hill
Our Landscape Architects transformed an unused courtyard at Stepping Hill Hospital into a therapeutic garden inspired by Stockport’s Hat factory.
Brinnington’s memorial garden
Our Landscape Architects worked with the local community to transform a once-barren patch of land into a vibrant community space for reflection, connection, and growth.
