Introducing The People’s Patch Coventry
Groundwork West Midlands Leads Green Space Transformation at Alan Higgs Leisure Centre
Willenhall, Coventry – June 2025
Groundwork West Midlands is proud to announce the start of an exciting regeneration project at a disused green space located at the Alan Higgs Leisure Centre in Willenhall, Coventry. In partnership with CV Life and the local community, this project will transform an overgrown and dilapidated area into a thriving, multi-use green space designed to support wellbeing, environmental education, and community engagement.
The first phase of the project will focus on creating an accessible and welcoming environment. Planned features include well-maintained paths, raised beds for food growing, a community orchard, seating areas, and a polytunnel. A central open space will provide opportunities to host events and activities for children and families, particularly those focused on learning about the environment and community resilience.
A key feature of the site is a natural pond, currently hidden and underutilised. This area will form the second phase of the project, offering a unique opportunity to restore a valuable ecological habitat. The pond will become a space for environmental learning, wildlife support, and personal wellbeing, enabling the community to reconnect with nature in a meaningful way.
This initiative forms part of Groundwork’s ongoing mission to improve places and lives across the West Midlands. By working in collaboration with local residents and partner organisations, the project aims to create a sustainable and inclusive space that reflects the needs and aspirations of the Willenhall community.
Groundwork West Midlands looks forward to developing this site into a vibrant, green asset that contributes to both people and planet.
