What happens when healthcare goes beyond the clinic and meets people where they are?

Our latest video showcases the first year of the In This Together project, a community-led initiative delivered by Groundwork Yorkshire and commissioned by Wakefield Council Public Health Team to improve cervical screening awareness and access across the Wakefield district.

Over 12 months, the project worked with some of the area’s most underserved communities, building trust, addressing misconceptions, and helping people overcome barriers to life-saving cervical screening. Through outreach, education, partnership working and one-to-one support, the team engaged with 984 people, supported 117 screening bookings, and helped 59 individuals attend screening for the first time.

The video highlights the real stories behind the statistics and demonstrates how person-centred, culturally sensitive and relationship-based approaches can help reduce health inequalities and improve cancer prevention outcomes. It also explores the key lessons learned and the ambitions for Year Two, including expanded HPV education and wider community engagement.

Watch the video to discover how community outreach is helping ensure that cervical screening reaches those who need it most.
