Frickley Country Park

Frickley Country Park is on the site of two former collieries in with South Elmsall, West Yorkshire. It is situated along the northern boundary of the town with and agricultural land and broadleaf woodland surrounding the park. The colliery closed in 1993 and, following remediation, Frickley came into Land Trust management in 2012.

This park has a wonderful mix of open meadows, wetlands and woodlands, providing homes for a wide variety of birds, butterflies and other wildlife to thrive. Two wetland areas, property of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council (WMDC) are located in the park, with floodwater storage function.

The park also features striking sculptures that celebrate its mining heritage, and more than 70,000 trees have been planted, which are maturing into attractive woodland.

Car parking is available off Doncaster Road alongside the Frickley Lane bridleway

Open all year
