I’ve been trying to figure out what to write by way of this introduction, striking that elusive balance between sharing some interesting or useful things about me and why I’m involved in Groundwork Yorkshire and trying hard not to be too boring.  Is anyone still reading?

I’m Antony, the newly appointed chair of the board of trustees.I began my professional journey as an Occupational Therapist, working with individuals experiencing mental health challenges. Throughout my career, I have remained committed to empowering people to achieve happier, healthier versions of themselves. Currently, I fulfill this mission through various roles within the public sector. Strong, resourceful, creative and supportive communities play such an important part in achieving a sense of belonging which supports that and I’m always delighted to hear the stories of lives changed that are presented to the board from the staff’s hard work.

ANTONY NELSON

I first joined the Groundwork family in Feb 2016 as the chair of Groundwork South Yorkshire. I was subsequently appointed to the Groundwork UK board and migrated over to the newly formed Groundwork Yorkshire as the long process of merger across the Yorkshire footprint concluded. I really admire the ethos of Groundwork; supporting people to improve their environment and in so doing making meaningful change for themselves. I am delighted for this opportunity as chair to support the staff and volunteers in your amazing work through leading the board to ensure quality governance, set the strategic direction of our charity and champion the difference we make.

We live in a world of constant change and increasing insecurity, our environment is in crisis and vulnerable people across our communities continue to experience poverty and poor life chances. Our work as Groundwork Yorkshire, part of a strong and highly motivated national federation of Groundworks, makes a difference through the incredible things you do everyday delivering change with people to places.  Thank you.
