Fryston Country Trail

Fryston Country Trails is a 65-hectare green space in Castleford, transformed from the former Fryston and Wheldale colliery sites. Through extensive reclamation, the area has become a flourishing hub for wildlife, recreation, and community engagement.

Visitors can enjoy over 8 kilometres of scenic footpaths, cycleways, and bridleways that weave through meadows, woodlands, and along the River Aire.  Fryston is designed for all ages to enjoy, and stands as a proud example of land regeneration and community-focused green space.

Events include:

  • educational workshops
  • events and open days
  • conservation volunteering
  • health walks
  • nature walks
  • habitat and wildlife surveys
