Groundwork re-purposes Morgan Stanley Garden from RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Groundwork London is proud to work again with Morgan Stanley and Chris Beardshaw to breakdown and repurpose their RHS Chelsea Flower Show garden to benefit three East London community projects.

Inspired by the UK’s love of beautiful herbaceous-rich gardens, the Morgan Stanley Garden explores innovative ways to manage resources more sensitively.

Designed by award-winning British garden designer, Chris Beardshaw, Groundwork will redistribute over 2,000 plants, shrubs and gardening materials from the garden to three community sites in East London:

Welshpool House Garden, South Hackney
Welshpool House is a 17-storey tower block with three underused gardens. We are working with the London Borough of Hackney and the Tenants and Residents Association (TRA) to rejuvenate their garden and support the residents to make better use of it. We will support the TRA to make additional improvements that will be funded by income generated by an aerial mast, such as: water harvesting, compost bays, greenhouse or cold frames, and a tool bank.

Teesdale and Hollybush Estate, Bethnal Green
Over the last four years, Teesdale and Hollybush TRA have been turning disused land on their estate into an urban plant growing oasis. Through their allotments, communal food growing and communal gardening activities, the TRA promotes social cohesion and environmental sustainability, which help break down social and language barriers through sharing gardening experiences and expertise.

Stamford Hill, Hackney
Friends of Stamford Hill on the Stamford Hill Estate have been developing open spaces and underused spaces across their estate for several years. The estate boasts communal food growing areas, peace and relaxation gardens and enhancements to green spaces. This year’s plant donation will enhance open spaces and improve the areas as well as improve biodiversity and wildlife areas.

The RHS Flower Show, taking place 21st – 25th May 2019, is the place to see cutting-edge garden design, new plants and gardening inspiration. We are very excited to have the opportunity to be involved in such a prestigious event once again
