Our work in Tameside

As a borough, Tameside comprises of historic market towns, urban centres and green moorland. The area’s proud industrial heritage and strong sense of community spirit shine through however many parts of the borough still lack equitable access to the opportunities found elsewhere and local residents continue to feel the effects of longstanding socio-economic challenges.
We work primarily in Ashton-under-Lyne, creating solutions that put power in local hands, creating skills and jobs for a greener economy and delivering greenspaces for nature, for climate and for everyone.
Our Tameside Office & Training Centre
Our office and training centre can be found at: Birchcroft, Crowthorne Road, Ashton-under-Lyne, OL7 0DH
As well as a base for our staff team, our office is used to host a range of training programmes and wellbeing activities.

Tackling fuel poverty
Our Green Doctors help Tameside residents boost their income and live warm and well in their homes by installing small measures, offering behaviour change advice and supporting them to manage payments.

Employment support for people with long-term health conditions
We support people who are disabled, have a long-term health condition or are experiencing low mood to find fulfilling employment.

Supporting young people to reach their goals
The Team programme, delivered in partnership with The Kings Trust, is a 12-week programme which provides young people with the opportunities to recognise, develop and demonstrate a core set of skills, attitudes and personal qualities valued by employers across a wide range of sectors.

Using nature as a tool for Alternative Education
Our environmental educators deliver structured outdoor sessions in woodland settings in Tameside to help participants reconnect with nature, build practical skills, and develop confidence, resilience, and social connections.

Connecting People with Nature
We engaged communities local to the Medlock Valley with activities in this valuable greenspace, creating opportunities to get involved in practical conservation work and learn all about the species Groundwork and partners are working to protect.
