Social Value with Groundwork Greater Manchester
As a charity, Groundwork Greater Manchester exists to create lasting social and environmental impact across the region. Our work is driven by three core missions that help build a greener, fairer and stronger Greater Manchester:
- We will work for all, improving life chances and increasing well-being across the communities we serve
- We will bring communities together to deliver long lasting, positive social and environmental change
- We will create thriving nature rich and climate resilient urban environments, delivered and cared for in partnership with the community

Corporate partnerships play a vital role in helping us achieve these missions. We develop social value partnerships that create meaningful benefits for communities while enabling our partners to demonstrate measurable impact in the areas that matter most to them.
We work with businesses in a variety of ways, from supporting tender submissions to delivering social value commitments throughout the life of a contract. You can work with us in three ways:
- Contribute – Practical support at no cost, such as work placements, mentoring, careers advice or site visits.
- Invest – Small-scale financial support, typically up to £2,500, funding targeted activities such as community volunteering days, employability programmes or local environmental improvements.
- Partner – Larger, bespoke collaborations, typically £2,500+, where we co-design and deliver projects that create long-term social and environmental impact, from new employment support programmes to community-led green space improvements.
Our social value offers are mapped against the TOMs framework, ensuring outcomes are measurable, meaningful, and deliver lasting impact for both communities and partners.
This page contains examples of our social value opportunities and is not an exhaustive list, please contact us to discuss how we can work together
WORK
We supports people from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds to access training, employment, and progression opportunities, helping individuals move towards positive and sustainable futures. We work with young people who are NEET, people who are care experienced, people with lived experience of the criminal justice system, and veterans, recognising the specific barriers each group may face in accessing opportunities and sustaining employment.
We deliver a range of skills development programmes throughout the year, supporting people to build confidence, develop practical and transferable skills, and progress into education, training, volunteering, and employment. Our approach is person-centred, focusing on individual strengths, aspirations, and needs, and ensuring tailored support that helps people overcome barriers and achieve their goals.

ECONOMY
We’re a Greater Manchester registered charity (NT14) and SME (NT19) so any funding & partnership work delivered with us will directly contribute towards your social value commitments while creating measurable local impact.
As a small charity, there are areas where specialist skills and expertise from corporate volunteers could help us overcome resource challenges and increase the impact we deliver across Greater Manchester (NT15).
Examples of specific areas where we need support:
- Digital & data strategy
- Data protection, information security and compliance
- Policy research
COMMUNITY
We strengthen community cohesion by delivering a range of community-led events and social action projects, typically delivered from local greenspaces and Green Community Hubs. These activities help people engage with their neighbourhoods and develop pride, connection, and positive participation within their community.
We also provide 1-to-1 support to people in order to increase confidence, resilience, life skills, and positive aspirations. As with all of our work, we prioritise supporting people from disadvantaged backgrounds and communities facing the greatest challenges, ensuring that our programmes are inclusive, preventative, and deliver lasting social value across Greater Manchester.

PLANET
We work with communities across Greater Manchester to create thriving nature rich and climate resilient urban environments, delivered and cared for in partnership with the community. Our work takes place primarily in urban and disadvantaged areas where access to quality green space is often limited, and where environmental improvement can deliver the greatest social and ecological benefit.
We deliver a wide range of environmental programmes which reconnect people with nature while increasing biodiversity and strengthening the resilience of urban environments to climate change.
Our approach is community-led and place-based, working alongside residents, schools, and partners to design and deliver interventions that reflect local needs and aspirations. By involving communities in hands-on environmental action, we build awareness, skills, and long-term stewardship, ensuring that improvements to biodiversity and ecosystems are sustained well beyond the life of individual projects.
