Groundwork is working with Learning through Landscapes on a pioneering project, Living through Landscapes, to support people with dementia by transforming outdoor spaces at 30 care homes across the UK.
After being awarded a grant of £1.3m from the Big Lottery Fund, Learning through Landscapes will work with residents and staff to make gardens and outdoor settings more suitable, stimulating, accessible and more like familiar natural environments people have experienced in the past.
There is a wealth of evidence demonstrating that access to quality green spaces can have a positive effect on an individual’s mental and physical health by providing them with opportunities to reduce isolation and places to get active and closer to nature.
Groundwork will be managing and delivering the landscaping works, ensuring the vision of local care homes to create outdoor spaces their residents can enjoy.
