We offer three different employment training programmes within Green Team, which we’ve outlined below. If you’d like to discuss which programme is the best fit for you, or someone you’d like to refer, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team lead, Adrian Osler (adrian.osler@groundwork.org.uk).

1. Horticulture traineeships (Level 1 City & Guilds Award) for young people

Successful applicants will complete a 10-week training course leading towards Level 1 City & Guilds in Practical Horticulture Skills, as well as brushing up on their Maths and English skills. Those who successfully complete the training will be invited to interview for a 6-month paid contract of employment as a Green Team Operative, working on grounds maintenance and horticulture jobs across London.

Am I eligible?
Applicants must be aged 19-24 and not currently in employment, education, or training.

2. Horticulture (Level 1 City & Guilds Award) with Employability Skills training and qualification

Participants attend 10 horticulture training sessions and complete a Level 1 City & Guilds Award in Practical Horticulture Skills. In this programme, trainees also benefit from 1-2-1 sessions with our Employment Advisors to help them prepare for the job application and interview processes. During these sessions they will complete an Employability Skills qualification.

All participants who successfully complete the course are then guaranteed an interview with a grounds maintenance employer. Currently, 62% of trainees move into employment after completing this training.

3. ‘On the job’ waged horticulture training (Level 1 City & Guilds Award) with employers

This 26-week from programme offers waged horticultural training that enable trainees to gain horticultural skills and qualifications ‘on the job’, ultimately gaining the skills and experience they need to get back into work. The trainees work on real grounds maintenance jobs from the outset, whilst working towards a Level 1 City & Guilds Certificate in Practical Horticulture Skills.

These programmes are employer led, which ensures that our trainees gain the skills and qualifications companies really require from their employees. Trainees also benefit from 1-2-1 advice from our employment advisors to help them prepare for job applications and interviews after the programme ends.

As valuable as they are, joining our Green Team programmes is about more than just qualifications and skills. The confidence and self belief our trainees gain from the experience can make a genuine difference to their lives.
